2020-21 Reopening and Learning Plans

On-campus learning began Wednesday, August 19! We know that dual language learning and social emotional health is best achieved through in-person interaction. Accordingly, we have returned to on-campus instruction with increased health and safety protocols in place to ensure the well-being of all our community members, especially those most at risk.
as research about the virus evolves, each of us continues to make adjustments to the new “normal” of an ongoing pandemic. we respect that each family is at a different place with precautions; everyone has a different experience and different perspectives.
Our ability to open on campus is guided by 4 main goals:
minimize exposure to the virus

minimize teacher contact within a cohort (3-4 teachers max)
The school is also realistic that until there is a vaccine for this virus, it will not go away.威廉希尔体育网站 We are prepared should there be periods throughout the year in which we may need to go virtual for safety reasons.
威廉希尔体育网站we have taken your feedback on virtual learning, have been in contact with our peer schools throughout the world and locally, and have researched what experts advise as best practices, all in an effort to make sure that our virtual learning practices are up to date and are world class.

Frequently Asked Questions on Reopening
- While these procedures are necessary for health and safety, we realize these must also be balanced with the social-emotional well being of each member of our community. In all of this, we want to maintain the unique and, frankly, comforting ISDenver feeling we all have when engaging with our international community.
- Here are some of the questions we have already received - this section will continue to be updated as we approach the start of school.
- Where is ISDenver getting its information and guidance?
- How is ISDenver updating their information?
- If you are requiring masks for teachers, are you providing them as well? What about face shields?
- How will teachers engage their students if they are wearing a mask?
- I am worried about my child(ren) wearing a mask all day. How will this work?
- What if my child cannot wear a mask/has sensory issues wearing it, etc? Will there be exceptions?
- Can students use face shields instead of/in addition to masks?
- Have you considered using clear masks for teachers?
- How will we be monitoring the mask mandate / prevent students from wearing valve masks?
- Could you provide further details on the school cleaning and sanitizing processes? What type of sanitizers is the school using?
- How often are you cleaning the playgrounds and outdoor spaces?
- What do the classrooms look like?
- Has ISDenver considered random/pooled periodic testing?
- Do you plan to restart before/after-care?
- Will there be camp available for early release days?
- Will the school consider a reduction in tuition/school expenses should we go partially or fully virtual again at some point this year?
- Do you expect to adjust the fall/winter schedule?
- Were teachers involved in the reopening planning, and did you get their feedback?
- How will ECE look with parents not being allowed on campus?
- Have you thought about adopting a hybrid teaching model / schedule?
- What about refunds for trips?
- How will all of these health and safety procedures impact the warmth of our community? I.e., can my child hug their friends or teachers?
- What about all of our beloved events?
- Will you give consideration for siblings across grade levels if we go virtual/hybrid model, in terms of timing of classes, etc?
- Will ISDenver begin requiring vaccines?
- Is there a travel policy in place for families/students, such as a self-quarantine or a COVID test requirement before returning to campus?
- I have multiple children at ISDenver - what happens if one of my child’s classrooms is quarantined because of a sick student, but the other is not? Do both children need to quarantine?
- How will student support work with cohorting?
- How will the library work this year?
- Can sick children join in livestream learning?
Virtual Learning Model
To be implemented should the ISDenver campus be closed to in-person learning for any period of time. Please note that this differs from the roadmap for those students who will learn online for the entire school year while most students remain on campus. Note that should all or part of our campus close to on-campus learning due to governor's orders, our plan is to keep all students younger than 6 years old on campus and continue with the curriculum and learning that is in place.
- ISDenver will provide a well-structured program that leverages the advantages of learning from home while minimizing the negative impact of not being in school. We understand the importance of keeping our students connected as a community to each other, their teachers, and the school in general.
- We also understand the importance of balancing the use of on-screen activities with engaging activities without the use of screens.
- Accordingly, our weekly schedules in all three divisions heavily favor real-time learning experiences rather than recorded, asynchronous learning experiences.
威廉希尔体育网站our weekly schedule will follow a similar model to that of last spring, again with much greater teacher interaction and live learning:
Learning will be done in three week units, as much as possible
威廉希尔体育网站wednesday afternoons will be for our faculty to work offline.
Every other Friday will be a day off of virtual learning - we appreciate the need for breaks for all involved!
